for treatment - Artequin

Artequin™

Artequin™ is a free combination of two well-known antimalarials:
  • Artesunate, offering a fast schizonticidal action and an elimination half-life of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Mefloquine, offering a prolonged schizonticidal action which optimizes the action of artesunate with an elimination half-life of approximately 21 days.

Artequin™ is indicated for the oral treatment of non-complicated P. falciparum malaria in endemic areas (e.g. Africa), treatment of multi-drug resistant strains of P. falciparum and mixed Plasmodium infections.

The therapeutic performance of Artequin™

Artequin™ acts very quickly:

Parasite reduction of more than 70% in less than 24 hours.1

* Note: For easy reading and understanding the wording Artequin™ is used. If not stated otherwise, Artequin™ always stands for the Artequin™-600/750 dosage form. Other Artequin™ dosage forms are available
  • Fever Clearance Time (FCT) of 32 hours and.1
  • Parasite Clearance Time (PCT) of 45 hours.1

Summarizing these study results, Artequin™ offers a clinical and parasitological cure with a therapy of 3 days.

    Artequin™ acts extensively:
    100% patient cure rate after 14 and 28 days.1

The advantages of this extended action are that the cure persists until at least day 28 and that recrudescence and multiple infections can be limited.

    The excellent tolerability of Artequin™

Adverse events experienced by patients taking anti malarial drugs often mirror the symptoms of the acute malaria infection. Overall, only a few side effects have been reported in the Artequin™ studies and most of them were of mild to moderate severity only.

The three color blister of Artequin™

The blister of Artequin™ is a special design with three colors to facilitate the daily administration of Artequin™. Each color line contains a 24-hour dose of Artequin™. This way, the administration is very easy and the patient always knows exactly where he/she stands in the course of therapy.

Artequin™ meets today’s therapeutic needs, namely:
  • Fast onset of action and a long lasting therapeutic effect.
  • Good tolerability.
  • A short treatment duration.
  • Good patient compliance.
  • The slowing down or even prevention of development of drug resistance.

The easy dosage scheme of Artequin™

1 single dose – of 2 tablets – for 3 consecutive days – and the patient is cured from malaria.
